In recent years sustaining biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance has come under increasing pressure due to factors such as habitat fragmentation, development imperatives and global warming. The convention on biological diversity is the first comprehensive global agreement addressing all aspects relating to biodiversity. 1. Bugun liocichla – this species has been classified as vulnerable under the international union for conservation of nature. 2. Nicobar megapode-this species inhabits forests and secondary growth with greater concentration in coastal forests. 3. Hoolock gibbon- this species the only ape in India is a forest dweller. The threats to hoolock gibbon in the wild include habitat encroachment by the human beings forest clearance for cultivation and forest degradation. 4. Vented gliding frog- the main threat to its existence is conversion of forested areas to cultivated land and the extraction of wood and timber by local people.
