The London Olympics commencing on 27th July 2012 with the theme slogan inspire a generation are a much awaited event for the sports enthusiasts across the globe. It is only since 1988 that the host cities have adopted their own motto slogan for the Olympic Games. At the London games around 10500 athletes will compete across 26 sports with the epicenter of competition being Olympic park. Wenlock has been chosen as the official Olympic mascot and Mandeville as the official Paralympics mascot for London 2012. The stamps are a stylized portrayal of sportsmen engaged in volleyball rowing sailing and badminton. Volleyball made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 1964 games for both men and women. The object of the game is to land the ball in the oppositions half of the court. Rowing has been staged at all Olympic Games since making its debut on the Olympic program at Paris in 1990. Rowing events are head to head races ranging from single sculls to the eight which is contested by teams of eight rowers with a Cox. Sailing made its Olympic debut in Paris 1900 with both men’s and women’s competitions. With the exception of st. Louis 1904 the sport has appeared at every Olympic Games since. Badminton one of the most dynamic Olympic sports, badminton made its full Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992. Doubles players must be in perfect harmony working together as a team.

A radar system in the sky of the Indian air force (iaf) started with the induction of the first airborne warning and control system AWACS aircraft on 28 th May 2009 .as a result India joined an elite group of nations with a radar system capable of tactical surveillance of airborne and surface targets simultaneously. The AWACS provides all weather airborne early warning, air battle management and command and control functions for tactical and strategic operations. It carries the largest and the heaviest dome mounted on any aircraft in the world. It has extremely effective on board signal intelligence – gathering systems which assist in building an accurate and composite picture of the ongoing battle and help in future operational and tactical strategies. The personnel of 50 squadron of Indian air force, also known as adwitiya are the men behind this magnificent machine.

Motilal Nehru

One of the most eminent personalities of the Indian nationalist movement, motilal Nehru (1861-1931) was a legal luminary, a noted parliamentarian and a journalist who upheld high ideals. He is also remembered as the father of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister and one of the tallest statements of the world in the post-world war era. Motilal Nehru emerged successful in the legal practice, and in course of time, he came to be counted among the leading lawyers in the country. In 1919 he launched the daily paper ‘independence’, which advocated nationalist ideas forcefully. In 1920 he abandoned his practice at the bar, accepted a frugal style and living and adopted khadi. Motilal Nehru and c.r.das founded the swarajya party in January 1923 and contested the elections. The appointment of Simon commission in 1927, which excluded Indians from the commission, saw a revival of political activity in the country. He passed away on February 6, 1931.
